Getting into the Holiday Spirit on the Peninsula

December 17, 2017

It’s hard to believe that we are already right in the middle of the holiday season here on the Peninsula – already in the middle of Hanukkah and just about a week away from Christmas! If you are looking for things to do this holiday season to get you into a festive, wintery mood, here are some of my favorites…

Go Ice Skating in Downtown San Mateo

What better way to get outdoors for a wintery activity than to make use of our temporary, local, outdoor ice skating rink in downtown San Mateo’s Central Park? You may have heard of San Francisco and San Jose’s outdoor rinks, but you needn’t make the trek to the city if you don’t want to. For the last couple of years, San Mateo has put up an outdoor rink right here on the Peninsula. What are you waiting for – lace up your skates and get out on the ice – open daily through January 15th! More details here: http://onicerinks.com/san-mateo-on-ice

Take in the Holiday Lights on Eucalyptus Avenue in San Carlos

A local holiday tradition, the residents of Eucalyptus Avenue in San Carlos deck out their homes with one of the best light displays on the Peninsula. Feel free to either drive the street, or park nearby and take your time strolling with a cup of hot chocolate. The commitment and creativity of these homeowners is incredible, and is sure to get you in the holiday spirit!

See a Live Performance

The Bay Area is home to a wide variety of outstanding performing arts organizations. A number of ballet companies throughout the Peninsula (as well as in San Francisco and San Jose) are celebrating the holiday season with annual productions of The Nutcracker. One of my personal favorites, however, is Smuin Ballet’s The Christmas Ballet. Smuin Ballet is a contemporary ballet company that is based in San Francisco, but performs throughout the Bay Area – including at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Visit http://www.smuinballet.org/ for more information on performance dates and locations.

While these are just a few of my favorite ways to get in the holiday spirit, there are so many ways to celebrate here on the Peninsula! Have I missed one of your favorites? Leave a comment below or send me a message!
